Former Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur defender William Gallas has compared all of his former Premier League sides where he spent 12 years after moving from Marseille in 2001.
His first move was to Chelsea where he won two Premier League titles, the EFL Cup and Community Shield during a five-year spell at Stamford Bridge before heading to north London for four years with Arsenal. A controversial move to rivals the Gunners' rival Tottenham Hotspur followed before he finished his career in Perth, Australia.
When asked to reflect on his time in the English top flight, Gallas said there was one club he clearly holds closest to his heart from the lot.
"I liked all three, but maybe Chelsea was the most special time for me.
"It was my first club abroad and I had a great time there, winning a few trophies as well. And it was there that I first started my international career as well.
"When you are playing for a big club you expect to lift trophies. When you are playing for a big club you expect to lift trophies." Gallas told
While his career had been successful, including Premier League titles in 2005 and 2006, Gallas also had controversy due to on-field behaviour and friction with other personnel. In 2007, he was named Arsenal's captain but was removed from the role during the 2008–09 season after criticising teammates in a media interview.
He left Arsenal at the end of the 2009–10 season, when his contract expired, later signing for rivals Tottenham. He was released at the end of the 2012–13 season when his contract expired. He retired from professional football on 16 October 2014.
