CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 General Background of the project
Building construction have been
existing since olden days and different material are used for construction of
the structure. But nowadays, building are constructed with blocks. Bricks, timber
etc despite the fact that any material used to construct, the structure is
still far attractive i.e, (Dull) but technology have advance and bring one of
important finishes in to existence which is Paint. (Areinu. 2015) Paint is a liquid substance or mastic
composition, that after apply to a substrate its tum to a solid film. It is
used to protect colour and to provide texture to an object, paint can be used
or purchased in many colours and in many different types, such as water color, synthetic.
e.t.c. (Lascaux 2004). There are many purpose for using paint in a building,
this includes: To increase the visual appeal of building surface from termite
attack and increase the surface durability. However, in building, there are
various part apply to paint on, such as: interior wall, ceiling exterior, wall
surface, wooden surface and metal.
Painting is the practice of applying
paint, pigment color or other medium to a solid surface (support base ) the
medium is commonly applied to the base with a brushes, machines etc. paint play
a critical role in construction so in case of these it cannot be overlook under
normal condition.
1.2 Need for the project report
The need of this project is to make
the workshop attractive and to increase it value. Not only that it will make
the workshop comfortable for the student during practical
1.3
Aim and Objectives of the project
The aim of this project is to carry
out the painting aspect in the completion of block laying/ concreting workshop.
To achieve the above aim the following objectives must be considered.
i.
To identify the type of paint to be used for the work
ii.
To identify the equipment to be used in carrying out the painting.
iii.
To access the surface(s) to be painted.
1.4 Scope
of the study
The project report would be' focusing
on the painting of plastered wall of concrete workshop, wooden frames and metal
doors.
1.5 Limitation
of the Project
This
project is limited to painting alone due to the followmg reasons.
i.
Insufficient of funds
ii.
Inadequate of equipment
iii.
Lack of goods quality material
1.6 Justification of the project
The
reason for this project is to practicalize what has been taught in painting
during the course of study as building technology student.

Definition of operational terms
Pigment:
this is an essential ingredient it provide capacity and give paint its color.
The pigment is solid substances disperse though out the coating to impart it a
color.
Binder:
it holds the entire paint ingredient together and helps the paint adhere to
surface. Solvent and thinner: is the liquid component of the paint, either
water based or solvent based is engineered to evaporate quickly and gives paint
its consistency. That is it makes the paint soft and thin.
Drier:
The drier accelerate drying forming oxygen from the atmosphere and transfer it
to the vehicle. However the drier reduce the elasticity of paint
Accelerator:
Additive to paint to speed the cure of a coating.
Additives:
Chemicals added to paint to improve create certain specific characteristic i.e.
flex agent.
Catalyst:
Additives to paint to speed the core of a coating.
Cellulose:
Natural polymer or resin from cottonseed oil to make paint coating.
Durability:
How well a film weather ad last .
Double
coat: One single coat of “paint
followed immediately by another, (Ruben, 2010).
Blushing:
occurring where a primer or surface does not totally fill a sandsracth or imperfection.
Bubbles: Air or solvent trapped in a film caused by
poor atomization during spraying.Order for full projects: #2000
