Conte worked with Chiellini when he was Juventus manager and knows how solid the Italian centre-back is and he is working tirelessly to sign the experienced defender.
Conte wants a replacement for out of favour David Luiz but it appears that Chiellini does not fancy a move to Stamford Bridge he prefers to sign a contract extension with Juventus. He told Sky Italia: ‘Extend my contract with Juventus? I’ll meet the club after the holidays to discuss the contract extension and I think that there won’t be any surprise.
‘Juventus feels like family to me and I couldn’t be better.’ Chelsea will still have the chance to convince Chiellini to join Conte in London until the 33-year-old inks a new contract. Chiellini’s current deal at Juventus expires in the summer and the defender is free to speak to other clubs this January.
Chelsea has been linked with Crystal Palace attacker Wilfried Zaha, Porto stars Alex Telles and Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland this January.
Virgil van Dijk turned down a move to Chelsea in favour of Liverpool, Chelsea will look elsewhere to recoup a centre back.
