STRATEGIC PLANNING AS A TOOL FOR ACHIEVING ORGANIZATION OBJECTIVES (A CASE STUDY OF NIGERIA BREWERY PLC )

CHAPTER ONE

1.0     INTRODUCTION

It is noteworthy that the world and particularly the business environment well as the educational section and managers in business and administration do make full use of planning to make important decision. The technique by which data is collected, organized, analyzed, interpreted and implemented helps today's business to prevent difficulty that may implicate their descision and the organizational goal and objectives.

The introduction and study of planning in the business world has immensely help in solving managerial problems and decision making process within an organization.

Decision making is the most vital roles to be performed by managers, as a result the manager makes used of planning techniques during the process.

The organization roles and functions such as forcasting planning, organisation, motivating, coordinating and controlling are the effective and efficient means by which organization can live longer and also satisfy consumer’s needs. Also an organization has been viewed as a group of people bound together to bring unity of action for the achievement of a predetermined objectives and goals. It can also be seen as a process of coordinating individual effort to accomplish common objectives.

 In recent years, the development of planning in the field of organization has brought a substantial change in the organisation thinking and practice. The learning of planning is almost or always a wise investment, especially for those who are planning to make a career in the field of management.

Moreover planning can be used in multi-dimensional ways for instance some organization relied on the efforts of the planning department in designing a graph to correct the past present and future problem.

However planning has been closely considered from the perspective that it enhances knowledge acquisition and decision making. Therefore many books have been written on these two subjects organization and planning, besides, good organization should always make use of planning along with the use of statistics for problem solving and decision making.

The techniques developed managers to assist in meeting business challenges and possibly over coming when is called “ statistical Analysis“ which enable the manager to always draw necessary conclusion whenever he has access to many draw organization data.

1.1     Background of the study.

Organizations have been making use of strategic planning to discharge their objectives but, it seems as the short-term or ordinary plan have been used. Under this it was investigated that this short-term plan could no longer cover most of structured objectives of an organizations, therefore, the introduction and application of strategic (long-term) planning arrived.

In an organizations, this is implied so as to coordinate the affairs of the organization effectively. Therefore, it could be understand as the formulation, evaluation, and selection of strategic which involves a review of the objectives of an organizations so as to see the proper display of responsibilities.

At most, strategic plan are time consuming, which involves comprehensive statement of all the financial consequences and assumption, it is then necessary that organizations employing should as well, make use of computer base models.

Also, the application of strategic planning is in a dynamic and flexible.

This will enable reviewing the plan regularly in anticipation of unexpected events such as sudden loss of large market or source of supply of raw-materials due to a coup or some of technological breakthrough.

1.2     PURPOSE OF STUDY

          The purpose of this project research is multifarious:- firstly, the study is to examine and elucidate planning as tools for achieving organization objectives.

Also the study will focus attention on the application of planning in managerial functions. An attempt would also be made to find out major problem facing organization in term of manipulation of decision. The potential manager in organization will be able to anticipate and prepare for planning in advance with various aspect of planning tools for achieving it management objectives this research will normally contribute to the existing knowledge of man in the field of planning tools and organization and it might as well serves as a takeoff ground for future researchers. Those researchers who might want to make use of previous work of formal.

Researcher, would also take a critical look at these two variables, planning (as an independent variable) and organization (as dependent variable and, examine how far the planning techniques plays an important role in making organization decision so as to correct problems.

1.3     SCOPE OF STUDY

The scope of this research is limited to Nigeria brewery plc. However all categories of staffs were studied as questionnaires were distributed across the entire organization ranging from floor workers to the supervisors and the linemen, that is, the middle organization team and the top executive.

The project will also cover areas like why managers use planning in relation to organization and how planning techniques are being develop to solve organization problems,

1.4     AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The main issue in the study centre’s on how planning helps in achieving organization objectives. Among the objectives of this to study critically examine the list of available planning tools in terms of achieving organization objectives and herby praticalizing planning as well as their importance towards achieving organization objectives in term of greater productivity and making huge profit which is the organization ultimate goal.

Therefore, the basic aim of the study include:-

Ø To identify the effect of planning as a tool in achieving organization objectives

Ø To examine the mode and manners in which planning is being applied in Nigeria brewery Plc and how effective the organization uses planning to achieve and increase organizational goals.
